Gary Howey grew up in South Dakota, then left the state, yet continued to promote this land extensively to outdoor enthusiasts. In fact, he loves his home state so much he's been yearning to return as a resident, and that wish is hopefully not far off. Howey is well respected in the world of outdoor writers and editors where he has worked for more than two decades. His love of South Dakota is evident in his collection of columns, radio and TV shows which feature our great outdoors and his many adventures. Howey's knowledge of the outdoors comes from great experience – as a former tournament angler, fishing and hunting guide. Howey's television show, "Outdoorsmen Adventures," has been bringing the outdoors – and features on South Dakota – to more than 25 million households in 48 states for more than eight years. His newspaper columns and articles have appeared in regional and national publications throughout the country. The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) recently honored Howey during its Electronic Media and Newspapers Awards. AGLOW is one of the largest professional outdoor writers groups in North America, and it has members throughout the United States. The awards Howey received were for his stories on Terry Redlin and the Redlin Art Center in Watertown, and on mentoring youth in the outdoors. Howey is also a member of the Great Lakes Outdoor Writers and the Nebraska Press Association. And he's a proud alumnus of the Watertown High School Arrows. | ||
