National Travel and Tourism WeekMay 7-15, 2011 – Why Travel MattersEach May, National Travel and Tourism Week is celebrated by the industry and communities across the nation to help promote travel to and within the United States. In South Dakota, the Department of Tourism teams up with state Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVBs) to increase awareness of the travel and tourism industry's economic, social and cultural contributions to South Dakota. The Department of Tourism and the CVBs work together to develop a marketing plan that best fits the goals and objectives of each community and of the See South Dakota Week campaign. 2011 See South Dakota WeekThis year’s national week takes place May 7-15. The Department of Tourism will work with CVBs statewide to spread the message of tourism’s benefits to South Dakota. Marketing promotions, including campaigns focused for each participating community, media blitzes and interviews, and hospitality/customer service training, are the backbone of this campaign.
