Interstate Information Center Programs

September 2011

Greetings Visitor Industry,

My name is Mandy Brumfield, and I am the new manager of the Interstate Information Centers. I am very excited to have this opportunity to work closely with the industry, the Information Centers, and South Dakota’s wonderful visitors. With a fresh outlook and a passion for our great state, I hope to make some productive changes that will aid the industry, the Info Centers, and the visitors. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions, or would just like to say "Hi!" I am very hopeful for your support throughout this process and will do everything I can to communicate efficiently and effectively in order to continue making South Dakota’s visitor industry the best in the country!

Sincerely,
Mandy Brumfield

The South Dakota Interstate Information Centers are an important part of South Dakota Tourism. More than 500,000 people, from all over the world, visit the 12 Information Centers each summer. An Information Center is often the first stop for visitors as they come into our state, and they are always greeted with a friendly, South Dakota smile and all the travel information they need. Hiking, gaming, shopping, sightseeing; you name it, we’ve got it in South Dakota, and we’ve got information about it at the South Dakota Interstate Information Centers.

Publication Program

South Dakota visitor industry members may display their publications at any of the 12 Interstate Information Centers. All industry members interested in placing their publication at a center must first review the Publication Program guidelines and then submit a Publication Program application to the Department of Tourism. There is NO APPROVAL PROCESS for 2012.

Publications will be displayed at the discretion of the Interstate Information Center staff. Industry members are responsible for delivering or shipping copies of their publication to the center(s).

2012 Price:  Free

2012 Deadline:  April 1, 2012

Poster Program

Businesses, communities and events may display their posters at ten Interstate Information Centers located near Valley Springs, Vermillion, Wilmot, Salem (eastbound and westbound), Chamberlain, Vivian, Wasta (eastbound and westbound) and Spearfish. The fees for the poster program are based on the number of locations your poster is displayed: $50 for one, $100 for two locations, $150 for three and $175 for four locations. Registration information is sent in March. Due to space limitations, posters are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis (determined by when payment and form are received).

Posters promoting a special event may be displayed two weeks in advance of the event free of charge.

Information for 2012 will be available in March 2012.

T-shirt Program

Another great way to advertise your business at the Interstate Information Centers is with T-shirts. Each Wednesday and Friday, Information Center travel counselors wear T-shirts promoting visitor industry businesses. Partners may choose which Information Center to which they'd like to send their shirts. Identical shirts must be given to each counselor at a center. T-shirts may also be given to all travel counselors statewide. T-shirts for this program are accepted throughout the summer. The number of T-shirt partners could be limited, depending on the center. T-shirt sizes for each center are available from the Department of Tourism at the beginning of May.
