The South Dakota Office of Tourism compiles a statewide calendar of events which is distributed in a variety of ways to visitors, travel writers, group tour operators and other members of the travel trade. Events listed in the calendar must meet certain guidelines.
- Name of event.
- Exact date(s) of the event.
- A brief description (3-4 complete sentences) of the event.
- City/town where event takes place.
- Contact phone number.
- Contact name and address.
- Must be submitted on the official entry form or through the on-line entry form.
- Must be submitted by the September deadline (to receive consideration for the Vacation Guide).
- Exact date(s) of next year’s event.
- Admission information.
- A specific location (street address, park, building).
- Approximate attendance.
- Handicap accessibility.
- Web site - Site must contain additional information about the specific event.
- E-mail address for visitors to request additional information.

- Animal shows
- Antique/collections/quilt shows
- Athletic events (professional or semi-pro)
- Art shows
- Automobile/motorcycle shows
- Boat, sport and camping shows
- Carnivals
- Celebrations (ethnic, holiday, town)
