The South Dakota Office of Tourism compiles a statewide directory of adventure activities
and distributes it free of charge to domestic and international
consumers and tour companies. The next update is scheduled
for spring, 2009. Businesses receive a free listing
in the Adventure Travel Guide by meeting the criteria for
inclusion and submitting the application form.
- Businesses must have an adventure, ranch or agricultural activity on premises, or guided adventure tours departing from premises.
- Businesses may be included without adventure activity on premises if they provide one of the following:
- Guided adventure tours elsewhere, but departing from premises
- Adventure equipment available for use, or rentals like mountain bikes, personal watercrafts, boats or snowmobiles.
- Lodging businesses must have organized adventure activities on premises, or guided adventure tours departing from premises.
Examples: A farm-stay bed and breakfast with organized agricultural activities such as milking cows, collecting chicken eggs, working cattle or mending fence; or a bed and breakfast, located within a city, that provides mountain bike rentals and/or takes guests on guided mountain bike tours.
- South Dakota Tourism reserves the right to include or refuse inclusion of any business in the Adventure Travel Guide. If questions arise concerning a business' inclusion, staff members will discuss the business' criteria before making a final decision.
