Trade Sales Activity
In order to keep South Dakota's "Great Faces. Great Places."
in front of key trade professionals, the Trade Sales and
Marketing team is working diligently this shoulder season to
educate and inform business audiences about the diverse South
Dakota visitor opportunities.
Shoulder Season Hostings
Journalists will be hosted during the shoulder season from many
European markets including Speak Up in the United Kingdom, Maerkische
Allgenine Zeitung in Germany, and Latitudes from Italy. In
addition, we will host invited international journalists and
tour operators to the Governor's Buffalo Roundup and a pre-fam
of the area.
RMI Megafam
The Trade Sales and Marketing team will present information and
a DVD on South Dakota during the RMI Megafam of international
tour operators that will take place in Idaho and Montana this
fall.
NTA/ABA Opportunities
Tourism will host a pre-convention caucus for the states NTA/ABA
members on Wednesday, Sep. 12, 2007, in Pierre.
The team will attend NTA in Kansas City, Nov. 2-6, 2007, and
meet with tour operators from across the United States as well
as lead a meeting for South Dakota members to cross-sell
state-wide opportunities.
The team mailed postcards to NTA tour operators to schedule
appointments with South Dakota attendees to coincide with the
opening date to schedule. Postcards were also mailed
to ABA tour operators to schedule appointments with South Dakota
suppliers during an October appointment scheduling date.
The group tour co-op ad, with South Dakota member
partners, will be featured in the September/October issue of
Destinations, November issue of Packaged Travel Insider,
November/December issue of Bank Travel Management, and December
issue of Courier. We will also print an over-run of the group
co-op ad that will be sent to 4,500 tour operators.
THE TRADE SHOW
As part of the effort to reach more travel agents, the team is
attending the largest travel show in the United States, the
American Society of Travel Agents show which is also known as
THE TRADE SHOW. This is the second year for this show and the
second year the team has been present. Over 300 quality travel
agent contacts were made at this show in 2006.
Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA)
The team will represent South Dakota at the 2007 JATA World
Travel Fair in Tokyo, Japan. Travel professionals, journalists
and the general public will gain an educational experience on
South Dakota through the continued efforts of the team and the
US Western States Tourism Office.
Meeting & Convention Co-op
The team is working with 11 of South Dakota's Convention &
Visitor Bureaus to develop a new cooperative marketing program. The program is designed to
showcase South Dakota as a meeting and event destination. The
co-op will consist of a new web site, brochure and advertising in
meeting and event publications.
Travel Professionals Web Site
We will launch a Travel Professionals web site page this fall on
the Travelsd.com web site that will include URL links for travel
agents, tour operators and meetings/convention planners to learn
more about South Dakota.
