Hunters make a significant impact on South Dakota’s economy. So, when the outdoor colors turn to amber, yellow and orange, South Dakotans roll out the red carpet to welcome the plethora of outdoor enthusiasts. Tourism presents a variety of promotional efforts to entice these folks to bring their dollars here.


Commercials of South Dakota hunters and anglers in action will air during episodes of ESPN Outdoors, Fox Sports Net North, Pheasants Forever TV and on The Outdoor Channel.


Ads promoting hunting travel specials will be advertised in a number of America’s most popular outdoor magazines, including:

Direct Mail

A direct mailing will invite hunters from surrounding states back to South Dakota this season.

Consumer Events

We’re also planning to attend special events in cooperation with the Outfitters Association of America where their World Record Exhibit Trailer will be displayed.

Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Conference and Hosting

The 50th anniversary of the AGLOW association will kick off in Sioux Falls with a conference and opening banquet featuring John Cooper, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks. The Marketing and Public Relations team with be conducting fam tours prior to and after the conference.


The hunting and fishing resource mini sites, and, will be updated for 2006 based on updates to the print Fishing and Hunting Guide. These sites remain easy-to-use references with information about licensing, regulations, packages and events.
